otakon 2007: friday convention report> My mom's alarm clock went off half an hour late, so I thought that I would end up getting to the BBC a lot later than I had originally wanted. I rushed a shower and quickly got dressed up as Haruhi from Ouran Host Club. We had breakfast at the restaurant in the hotel and there was a girl who recognized my character. She told me that she was dressing up as Hunny (same series) that same day! After breakfast, we headed down to the convention center. My mom and I parted ways. As soon and I got to the con, I admit I felt really weird and kind of akward being alone. Last year, I had three friends with me, so it was a big change for me. None of the morning stuff interested me, so I walked around for a while. A little past 10:00, I decided to drop into the Cosplay Props & Weaponry panel. It was intersting enough, but I left during the Q & A session at the end of it.
A few misunderstandings later, a quick trip back to the hotel and then Starbucks, and I was back at the con around 2ish. I was originally going to go to Artist Alley with my mom, but I had the sudden desperate urge to go to the Dealer's Room. To be completely honest, I was not happy with all the extra walking I had to do to get to the new entrance. As expected, the Dealer's Room was packed. I had about an hour to shop before I had something else planned, so I ended up rushing through most of it. My main goal for the trip down there was to find the store that sold shitajiki for $4 each and to see if any place sold anything Saiunkoku Monogatari. I ended up spending 20$ while I was down there. I bought 3 shitajiki and a trading figure. At three, I started my journey to find the exit. Ten minutes later, I was out of there. My next mission was to find out where Tomokazu Seki's Q &A session was being held. By 3:25ish, I foudn the line. It was already relatively long, but that was expected. I talked a little bit with the two people in front of me. It turns out they were from Canada too!
Five o'clock came a lot sooner than anticipated, and the Q & A ended. The next thing I did was to go and check out the line for the AAA concert. It was already fairly big, so I got in line. I chatted for a little while with the guy in front of me. Seating was supposed to start at six, but we didn't start moving until around a quarter after. I was seated on the far left of the center area. I guess I was around a dozen rows back. I twas a decent enough place for me to see the stage. At about six thirty, they showed the PV for the guys new song from their new single Natsumono. The song was No End Summer. At the end of it, the cameras started showing different parts of the audience. Then they showed the full version of the Sunshine PV. That made me really happy. <3 It was then back to the audience. The girl's PV was next and then it was back to the audience. Ten after seven, a voice was heard, announcing no pictures, etc. The concert was finally starting. They first came out wearing these asian looking coats. I'm failing to remember what songs they sang... Regardless, they had wonderful energy and enough catchy tunes to keep you entertained. One thing I must say is, damn they could dance. For the third song, they ripped off the coats to reveal white outfits. At the end of the song, they made their intros. I was surprised that their english was actually half decent. Next up was Kimono Jet Girl followed by a few more songs that I recognized but can't seem to remember the names to. They did a little more talking, asking if we knew such and such. One of the members kept saying that he wanted to come back to Baltimore while the other members kept calling him a liar. XD Misako announced three more songs until the end of the concert. First up was Get Chu!, second was Climax Jump and last up was Blood on Fire (I think...). AAA made their goodbyes and the concert came to an end. Much to my surprise, AAA didn't sound as bad live as I thought they would have. Nishijima was amazing and the others had some good moments too. Nishijima's talking voice is a little more nasal than I would have expected, but man was he cute. So were all the other members. <3 The one thing about the concert that I was really dissapointed about was the lack of energy in the crowd. Before the concert started, some people were trying to get the chant "Triple A! Triple A!" going, but it kept dying almost instantly. There were a lot less people jumping and appearing to enjoy themselves than I thought there would be. Oh well. What can you do about it?
When I finally got to the front of the line, everyone around me (including myself) were extremely dissapointed that all of the posters were sold out. T-T It would have been perfect to sign... Anyway, they didn't have any of the singles I really wanted, and I didn't feel like paying 40$ for one of their CDs. In the end, I bought Blood on Fire CD+DVD single and the group set of trading cards. When I got back to my hotel, I was waivering between regret and having made a good decision for not buying Nishijima's set. By the time I got out of the merchandise line, it was getting late. I was really hungry and my mom was waiting for me, so I figured I'd wait until Sunday to get my CD signed.
