otakon 2008: saturday convention report Saturday was a busy day for me which meant I needed to get an early start. By 8:30ish, I was on my way to Starbucks for a quick breakfast. At around 9:00, I started to make my way down to the convention center. Even though the Dealer's Room didn't open for another 45ish minutes by the time I got there, I decided to get in line. I had nothing better to do at the time and I needed to get into the Dealer's Room as soon as it opened to find something for Seki to sign. I talked a bit with the girl behind me while waiting. She and her friend seemed really nice. =) Around ten, the massive line started moving. When I got into the Dealer's Room, I saw that I had around 40 minutes to find something. I was extremely happy to have found Saiunkoku trading cards and to have gotten a really nice Ryuuki card. I wish I could have found a SaiMono pencil board, but none of the dealers seemed to have any. T-T While I was down there, I bought a few more things for myself. I also found a small present for Jo and Steph.
Right before my mom arrived at our meeting spot, I spotted an Eito Ranger (Kanjani8) cosplayer! I was sad that she didn't make the gathering, but I got her picture! (^o^)V I saw her along with four or five other rangers later that night, but I didn't get a picture. I really regret that now... It was around 12:30 when my mom and I made our way back to our hotel. My mom had bought some sandwiches and snacks that morning. I ate relatively quickly and changed into Kou Shuurei from Saiunkoku Monogatari. I was scared to death my head piece or wig was going to implode on itself some time that afternoon. I was meeting Mezzanotte (my Ryuuki) at 2:00, so I had about a half hour to kill before the designated time. I decided to just wantder back and forth through the con until two. I saw Tohma's Cain cosplay again and I went up and told her how awesome I thought it was (it was godly *o*). By ten to two, I decided to just sit, wait and relax at our meeting spot.
Once we both got our autographs, we went to get something to drink. A friend of hers met up with us soon after. I must say, man!bunny!Haruhi from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is both amusing and kinda scary at the same time. We both wanted to go down to the Dealer's Room, so we decided to meet back at the fountains at six to see if we could have a photoshoot. In the Dealer's Room, it took me a minute to remember that I forgot to put more money into my wallet. >.> Mildly angry with myself, I headed to the fountains. Mezzanotte met me down there at six. After some problems, we got some nice photos in our Saiunkoku costumes. After all the lines I'd been in that weekend, I felt sick looking at the lines for the Masquerade. For the first time in 3 years, I decided to skip it. Instead, I went to dinner with Mezzanotte and some Death Note cosplayers from some DN community on LJ. They seemed like nice people and were fun to hang with (even though I probably wasn't since I was a little akward and could only half understand what they were talking about ^^'). When we got back to the convention center, we parted ways. Checking the time, I realized I still had a little over an hour before my mom was comming to pick me up. I figured I might as well slip in to watch the rest of the Masquerade. From what I saw, it was better than last year, but there were only a few that I liked.
